CIEL Senior Attorney Glenn Wiser and IUCN-Canada Senior Program Advisor Tom Hammond will co-facilitate the 2006 UNEP North American Regional Civil Society Consultation, which will take place November 2-3 at the United Nations Foundation in Washington, D.C. Sixty representatives of forty-one organizations participated in last year's Consultation, which is convened annually by the United Nations Environment Programme, Regional Office of North America (RONA).

The agenda for this year's Consultation includes:

  • Globalization, Ecosystem Services, and Human Wellbeing

  • Gender and the Environment

  • Water and the Environment

  • Chemicals Management

Participants in the Consultation will produce a North American Civil Society Statement, which will be published as an official background document for the 24th UNEP Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GC/GMEF), an annual meeting of the world's environmental ministers. This year's Consultation will also result in the election of representatives to attend the Eighth Global Civil Society Forum (GCSF), which will be held in conjunction with the GC/GMEF in February 2007 in Nairobi, Kenya.
