January 2010
CIEL participated in the sixth session of the High-Level Task Force on the Implementation of the Right to Development, which took place in Geneva on January 14-22, 2010. The session focused on the Millennium Development Goal 8 Target E on Access to Essential Medicines and Target F on Transfer of Technology, and the Right to development criteria and corresponding operational sub-criteria.
During the session, Dr. Marcos Orellana presented a study on the linkages between the right to development and climate change, with particular attention on issues concerning international cooperation, financial arrangements and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). In light of these linkages, the study looked at how climate change cooperation could lead to the implementation of the right to development.
In addition, Daniele Violetti (Secretary to the CDM Executive Board Manager, CDM Process Management Sustainable Development Mechanisms Programme of the UNFCCC) discussed the achievement and developments of the CDM.
