CIEL Internship and Fellowship Programs

For over 20 years, CIEL has trained more than 350 Interns from 53 countries. During 2010, CIEL hosted 25 interns from around the world, including Jamaica, Chile, Turkey, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom, as well as a Louis B. Sohn Fellow from Nepal.

The Center for International Environmental Law is committed to strengthening international environmental law education and capabilities.

CIEL offers internships and fellowship opportunities in CIEL's offices in Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland and CIEL also directs a joint research and teaching program with The American University, Washington College of Law

Internship & Fellowships

CIEL's intern/extern/fellowship program offers lawyers, law students and other exceptionally motivated students and graduates excellent opportunities to gain experience in the field of international environmental law.

Over its 20 years, CIEL has trained more than 350 interns from 53 countries, providing an important educational opportunity for lawyers in training. CIEL’s Intern Program trains new lawyers and law students by giving them the opportunity to work on cutting-edge international envrionmental issues in Washington and Geneva alongside and under the mentorship of CIEL’s experienced staff attorneys.

CIEL also has internship opportunities for non-law students:

American University, Washington College of Law

CIEL's joint research and teaching program with The American University, Washington College of Law includes specialized courses on international and comparative environmental law and on-the-job experience through an extensive internship program to help launch the careers of law students and lawyers dedicated to environmental protection.

CIEL's fellowship program is a unique opportunity to explore aspects of international environmental law and work alongside passionate, talented attorneys. Overall, the experience was challenging, rewarding and an excellent foundation for further research and analysis of international environmental issues.
