Opening the Floodgates on a Finite Resource: The Implication of a Human Right to Water

Washington, D.C. (March 14, 2005) – The United Nations has declared 2005 to 2015 the International Decade for Action, "Water for Life." In honor of the new decade on water, American University's Washington College of Law (WCL), Sustainable Development Law & Policy, WCL's Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, and the WCL Environmental Law Society present a half-day event focusing on the debate of whether there should be a human right to water. The event will be held in Room 603 of American University's Washington College of Law, 4801 Massachusetts Ave., NW, on March 18, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Panel 1: Will address whether water should be a human right and the implications on the conservation and the economic sustainability of projects promoting access to water.
