U.S. Senators urge strengthening of the World Bank's new approach to lending - Program-for-Results (P4R) lending.
November 2011
CIEL has been leading efforts with many other civil society organizations around the world to ensure that the World Bank's new approach to lending - Program-for-Results (P4R) lending - provides the same protections for the environment, indigenous peoples, and other local communities as the Bank's current approaches to lending. A major concern highlighted by CIEL has been the almost complete lack of transparency related to projects funded through P4R. The letter from Senators Leahy and Kerry to U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner highlights concerns with the current P4R approach and offers strong recommendations for making it more robust.
