The China Western Poverty Reduction Project (China - Tibet)
In this project, the Bank planned to help finance the population transfer of approximately 58,000 Chinese farmers into a traditionally Tibetan and Mongol area. In addition to being politically insensitive, the project also was designed in violation of numerous World Bank policies, including information disclosure, indigenous peoples, involuntary resettlement, agricultural pest management, environmental assessment. A claim was filed to the Inspection Panel, which has investigated the project and is now preparing its report.
