CIEL and the Alternative Lawyering Conference
Sepember 2001
CIEL co-hosted with the Alternative Law Forum (ALF) - a public interest
law organization based in Bangalore, India - a conference on Alternative
Lawyering in Bangalore in September 2001. The conference was primarily
focused at exploring traditions of alternative lawyering in the context
of a rapidly globalizing world. Participants included leading Indian public
interest lawyers, advocacy groups, human rights practitioners, and law
students. The conference provided an opportunity to explore possibilities
of practicing alternative law in ways that address the foundational violence
and injustice of many laws, and initiated the development of a network
of alternative law practitioners.
