Alyssa Johl, Staff Attorney

Alyssa Johl is a Staff Attorney for CIEL's Climate Change Program with a particular focus on Human Rights and Climate Change.  Prior to joining CIEL in November 2010, she was Staff Attorney at the Climate Law and Policy Project, where she worked to protect the rights of indigenous peoples and other local communities that are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change by advocating for stronger emission reduction targets, adaptation assistance, and inclusion in policy processes at all levels of governments.

Ms. Johl received her JD, as well as a certification of completion in Environmental and Natural Resources Law, from the University of Oregon School of Law.  She also holds a BA in Development Studies from the University of California at Berkeley.  During law school, Ms. Johl worked for the law firm of Leahy, Van Vactor & Cox, and clerked for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Law and Policy Section of the Environment and Natural Resources Division.  In addition, she was a co-director of the 2007 Public Interest Environmental Law Conference, and a fellow for the Global Environmental Democracy Project.  Prior to law school, Alyssa worked as a research associate for the International Program of Earthjustice.
