Expert Availability: CIEL Attorneys at 21st Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Paris

To avoid catastrophic climate change, governments must agree to an ambitious, global climate agreement in Paris in December. Members of the CIEL team will be in Paris to advocate for the strongest possible agreement that respects, protects, promotes, and fulfills human rights in all climate actions.

Climate change is not just an environmental issue, but is fast becoming the greatest human rights challenge of our time. It is an issue of justice and inequality for the millions of people and communities around the world who already are experiencing climate harms. It is also an issue for future generations who will suffer increasingly severe loss and damage. If the international community acts urgently, with ambition, and scaled-up resources, it can reduce the very worst climate impacts. Integrating protections for human rights and ecosystems to prevent harms resulting from climate actions will lead to better outcomes for all.

CIEL Experts:

Carroll Muffett, President & CEO, specializes in climate litigation and accountability, and state responsibility, and is available to discuss the Paris negotiations in the broader context of climate policy and international law. He will be tracking COP21 from Washington, DC during week 1, and in Paris from December 5th-12th.
