Cate Bonacini

Senior Communications Campaign Specialist

Cate Bonacini (she/her) is the Senior Communications Campaign Specialist at the Center for International Environmental Law. She is based out of the Washington, DC office. Cate’s work focuses on using strategic communications to advance CIEL objectives and program priorities in non-climate treaty spaces, with a particular focus on supporting the Environmental Health Program to secure a high-ambition plastics treaty. Prior to this focus, Cate served as Communications Manager, developing the organization’s communications strategy and managing the day-to-day operations of the Communications Department. 

Cate joined CIEL in 2020 after nearly a decade of working for US-based health care advocacy organizations. She has extensive experience in developing public education campaigns, leading communications efforts for cross-sector coalitions, and developing narrative strategies. 

She holds a Bachelor in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD, and completed additional graduate-level coursework in environmental policy.
