CIEL Experts Available to Comment on the Future of Global Chemicals Policy

September 23, 2023

BONN, GERMANY – Experts from the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) are available for comment on the future of global chemicals policy and how policymakers worldwide can work toward a toxic-free future.

From September 23 to September 29, CIEL attorneys will participate in the negotiations to adopt a new international framework on chemicals and waste—the new Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) ‘Beyond 2020’—at the Fifth International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5) in Bonn, Germany.

CIEL experts will advocate for the adoption of a strong framework on chemicals and waste that includes measurable and time-bound targets, is guided by principles like precaution, prevention, and based on human rights-based approach; that includes a strong financing mechanism to implement the new agreement; ensures the continuation of work on issues of concern such as endocrine disruptors, and the creation of a Global Alliance to phase out Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHP).

David Azoulay — CIEL Senior Attorney, Director of Environmental Health program, head of CIEL’s delegation at SAICM. David will focus on legal and financial issues. David will be in Bonn from September 22nd to September 30. Follow David on Twitter
